Description
If you ride a performance bike and your road riding is, let’s say, ‘spirited’ and you like a tyre that brings out the best in your bike’s handling, then the Dunlop Sportsmart TT is a great option.
It’s the stock tyre supplied on BMW’s original M1000RR.
It sits one under the Dunlop D213GP Pro as the second stickiest road-legal tyre that Dunlop produces. However, it’s a much better bet for road riders than the extreme D213. The Sportsmart TT has a wider operating window, will warm up faster and stay warm – even when speeds drop. It’ll handle a downpour reasonably well but if you’re an all-weather rider, take a look at the Sportsmart Mk3 or even the Roadsmart Mk3 as these are good fast road tyres that work well in all conditions.
If your riding is a mix of sunny Sunday blasts, with the occasional trackday thrown in, the Sportsmart TT is a great option.
Five trackdays from a set of these is not uncommon. In fact, we know of a trackday instructor who has done over 20 trackdays on a single set of tyres, well over 500 laps. Look at the image gallery above, it’s the picture with the big Dunlop sidewall sticker. The Sportsmart TT is also the tyre of choice for a few UK club series, where tyre warmers aren’t allowed. In short, it’s a seriously capable track-ready tyre.

SVT optimises the temperature control system of the tyre through the intricately calculated tread groove pattern, so that they open and close when the tyre turns to create a vent-like effect to improve heat dissipation.
DUNLOP TYRE TECHNOLOGIES:
- MULTI-TREAD (MT) TECHNOLOGY – Years of success in global Superbike, Endurance and GP championships have resulted in the development of a pioneering multi-compound, which is transferred to many of our current Sportmax track and road products. By mixing compounds, the same tyre can display different performance properties at maximum leaning angles than when upright during straight line speed.
- JOINTLESS BELT (JLB) CONSTRUCTION – All our radial street tyres are designed using a combination of Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as well as JointLess Belt (JLB) construction (either front or rear). JLB construction eliminates the belt overlaps resulting in smoother handling and a more stable contact patch with the road.
- NTEC – Dunlop’s ingenious NTEC pressure adjust system allows the rider to optimise the tyre by adjusting inflation pressure. For dry track days, deflating the tyre will deliver predictable and tenacious handling on the limit. Back on the road, re-inflating to the manufacturer’s recommended pressures will reward the rider with class-leading levels of grip and performance.
- NTEC RT – The new NTEC RT technology allows for tuning rear inflation pressures to optimise contact patch for a greater track performance by increasing mechanical grip and wear over a larger surface.
