If you lube your motorcycle’s chain on a regular basis, then well done to you because most bikers don’t bother.
However, it’s best to clean your chain before you lube it. It doesn’t take long and by using some of these brake and chain cleaners and degreasers, you’ll remove most of the crud that builds up on your chain, meaning you improve your motorcycle drive chain’s life due to the fact there isn’t a load of road grime wearing away at the links.
Not only does a dry chain sound awful but it’ll prematurely wear your sprockets and knacker the chain. If you keep your chain adjusted, then bonus points to you. If you don’t feel confident doing it, then build up a good rapport with your local garage and they’ll probably adjust it for you for free. Well, that’s what we do here at Two Tyres.
A quick squirt of motorcycle chain cleaner will quickly remove the old lube and the residue with it. If you have the time and inclination, work it with a chain-cleaning brush to really get it spotless. Then apply a liberal amount of motorcycle-specific chain lube and you’re ready to roll.
