Avon has been making tyres in the same factory since 1904. How’s that for British engineering? They started making motorcycle tyres in 1911 and pretty much all of their range is still made in the UK.
While they are synonymous with classic bikes and cruisers, Avon make a comprehensive range of tyres for all motorcycles.
They have recently won races in the Manx GP and were the control tyre for some Irish Road Racing championships. Just because they’re a relatively small brand, doesn’t mean they can’t produce tyres that compete with the big boys. After all, they’ve been making motorcycle tyres for over a century and you don’t stay in business that long if you don’t produce something people want.
Today Avon offers a great value range of tyres, from the 3D Ultra for fast road riders, to the TrekRider for Adventure bikes and not forgetting their range of whitewall motorcycle tyres, popular with cruiser and classic motorcycle enthusiasts. Avon’s latest Roadrider the Mk2 has a huge range of sizes and is popular with riders of commuters and classic bikers. In fact the only two areas where Avon don’t offer a tyre is a slick racing tyre for trackday nuts and club racers or a maxi-scooter tyre.

Common Questions
What pressures should I run my Avon tyres at?
Check out Avon’s recommended tyre pressures in the PDF link here. For road riding, we recommend you run your tyres at 36psi in the front and 42psi in the rear.
What is the longest lasting motorcycle tyre?
If you want an Avon motorcycle tyre for a ‘regular’ motorcycle, that can rack up the miles in all weathers then go for the Avon Spirit ST (AV75 / AV76) or the Avon Storm 3D XM (AV65 / AV66).
Where are Avon’s motorcycle tyres made?
The majority of Avon’s motorcycle tyre range is still made at the company’s factory in Wiltshire, UK.
Can I run two different tyres on a motorcycle?
We don’t recommend you run different brands of tyres on the front and rear on your motorcycle as tyres are designed to work in pairs. If you are in a tight spot, for example your tyre’s knackered and the tyre shop only has a select few tyres, then the sensible choice is to fit your new tyre and be on your way. However we recommend you then replace the other tyre as soon as possible so that you have a matching pair.
How much does it cost to fit motorcycle tyres?
Here at Two Tyres, we have a London motorcycle workshop and we charge £50 to fit a pair of tyres when bought from us. That includes removal and fitting, balancing, new valves and environmental tyre disposal.
If you live out of London, the chances are your fitter will charge slightly less.
What’s the average life of motorcycle tyres?
This depends on the tyre’s compound. The harder the compound, generally speaking, the longer the tyre will last but mileage also depends on the rider, the type of bike and the road conditions.
Generally speaking, if you can get 4,000 miles from a pair of sports tyres on the road, you’re doing well. For road legal trackday tyres, you’ll probably get two trackdays from a set of tyres, but for super sticky tyres, you’ll probably knacker a rear in a day.
For Touring tyres, you can expect to get a minimum of 6,000 miles from a pair of tyres, but we regularly see riders getting 10,000 and so it’s reasonable to expect anything in between.
