Aprilia RS250 Tyres Guide

Our suggestions for the best tyres for road and trackdays on the mighty Aprilia RS250

Aprilia RS250 Tyre Size

The Mk1 version (1994 to 1997) runs a 110/70-17 front tyre and a 150/60-17 rear tyre.

The Mk2 version, which ran from 1998 to 2004 ran a 120/60-17 front tyre and a 150/60-17 rear.

To have the best choice of tyres for the later model, change your search from a 120/60 front tyre to the 120/70 which is a more common fitment (it’s a slightly taller profile). Selecting this front will open up your choices.

Aprilia RS250 History

Introduced in 1994 as a road-going replica of the 1993 250GP-winning RSW250 GP250, the RS250 is to this day one of the best-handling road-bikes that has ever been produced.

Production ceased in 2004 and over the past few years, prices have rocketed as collector’s battle it out to grab the last half-decent bikes available.

It still upsets me to this day when I think I sold my immaculate RS250 in 2004 in order to cover the next few month’s rent. I loved that bike, sob..!

With prices at eye-watering levels it’s unlikely many owners will want to clock up loads of miles on their RS250s but even if you’re only take your out for a few hundred miles a year, it makes sense to fit grippy quality tyres that’ll keep you safe and make sure you keep the bike handling sweetly.

The RS250 was supplied with Pirelli tyres as standard.

The Best Tyres for the Aprilia RS250

Despite the RS250’s uncommon sizes, you can still get some brilliant rubber for it.

Road Legal Trackday
If you’re after the stickiest road-legal track ready tyres then check out the Bridgestone R11. They are very track focused so they’ll need some proper warming-up before you get stuck in.

Likewise, Pirelli also make the Supercorsa SP (Sports Production) which is the same tyre you’ll see on bikes like a Daytona 675R and Fireblade SP or you could run the ultra-sticky race-ready Supercorsa SC if you’re chasing lap records. The SC is not a good choice for the road.

Fast Road
If you’re not doing trackdays on your RS250 but you want properly grippy road legal tyres then check out the Metzeler M9RR or Bridgestone S23 – both of which work really well with the RS250.

Road / All Weather
Not many RS250s are going to be out in all weathers but if you want a tyre that warms up within a mile, can deal with UK road surfaces and offers loads of grip, check out the Michelin Road 6 or the Pirelli Rosso 3 HR.

Aprilia RS250 Tyre Pressures

You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.

Aprilia recommend 27psi in the front and 31psi in the rear. Tyres have changed a lot in the past decade and even though you could run those pressures, we’d also suggest you try a few more psi front and rear.

If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:

Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi

Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi

Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi

125cc Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi

You should always check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold. Check out our range of motorcycle tyre pressure gauges here.
