Yamaha XSR700 Tyre Size
The stylish-looking Yamaha XSR700 tyre sizes are the exact same as the MT-07, so our guide below also applies to you if you’re an XSR700 owner, you stylish thing, you!
These are common motorcycle tyre sizes and so you have plenty of choice, whether you want a tyre for Touring, Trackdays, Fast Road Riding, All Weather Commuting tyres or High Mileage.
Yamaha MT-07Â History
If you’re wondering what motorcycle is best for wheelies, you’re looking at it. Aside from the monowheel action, the MT-07 is such a good bike. It’s A2 friendly but it’s also a bike that experienced bikers can have a laugh on. The 689cc parallel-twin four-stroke engine is absolutely brilliant and after you’ve ridden one, you’ll question whether you really do need more. Yes the MT-09 is a bit more raucous and the MT-10 is lethally quick but the MT-07 trumps them all when it comes to good old fashioned riding fun.
When people tell me they want to get a big bike, I used to recommend the SV650, then along came the Street Triple (675) and that was my go-to bike but now the MT-07 is on the scene, why look anywhere else.
Over the years the bike has had a couple of model updates. The second generation had a few styling tweaks and improved suspension over the original and for 2021 there’s another big set of tweaks for the MT-07.
Yamaha also makes the Tracer 700 which is essentially the same package but the Tracer has a longer swingarm and that definitely puts the kibosh on that initial 0 to 20mph acceleration and also the added weight and longer wheelbase makes the bike that bit less nimble.

Yamaha MT-07Â Stock Tyres
The MT-07 came with different OEM tyres across the years. From what we can see:
2008 models came with a Michelin Pilot Road 3 which is a very good tyre, still available (just)
2014 models came on an Bridgestone BT-023 which is a decent road-tyre.
The Moto Cage version came with Michelin Pilot road 3
The 2021 version comes fitted with Michelin Pilot Road 5 as the stock tyre. This is probably the best OEM tyre we’ve seen supplied on any road bike, a great choice!
Yamaha MT-07Â Best Tyres
The MT-07 comes with decent tyres as standard. However, you could fit tyres that are designed for sporty riding or tyres designed for commuting and all-weather grip.
Sticky tyre options
If you like to use your MT-07 for fast road riding, we think these tyres are better options than the stock tyres supplied with the MT-07.
All-weather options
The stock tyres are pretty good all-weather options but if you want improved performance, check out these options
Yamaha MT-07Â Tyre Pressures
You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.
If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:
Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi
Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi
Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi
125cc Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi
You should always check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold. Check out our range of motorcycle tyre pressure gauges here.
