What is it: The Michelin Power Cup 2 is an ultra-aggressive, road-legal track tyre designed for riders who prioritise maximum dry grip and lap-time performance. With minimal tread and slick-like shoulders, it delivers exceptional edge grip and confidence at full lean — making it as close to a slick as you can get – and yet it’s road legal!
Who is it aimed at: Hats off to Michelin for producing such a great tyre. In this day and age of health and safety, it’s great to see such a capable sticky for tyre, for those who like to explore the limits. It’s not for everyone and it’s aimed at serious trackday riders and fast road riders who want near-slick levels of grip. Michelin positions it as a 90% track tyre, and that’s exactly where it shines. While it can be used on the road, it’s best suited to warm, dry conditions and riders who understand its limitations.
Typically seen on: You’ll often see the Power Cup 2 fitted as OEM on track-focused machines like the KTM 890 Duke R, as well as on dedicated track bikes and race-prepped road bikes.
Power Cup 2 highlights: 2CT (front) and 2CT+ (rear) compounds for extreme dry grip. Slick-like shoulder design for maximum lean-angle performance. Very low tread ratio (approx. 4–5%)
Important: Best in warm, dry conditions. Limited performance in cold or wet weather.
The competition: The Power Cup 2 competes with tyres like the Pirelli Supercorsa SC, Dunlop D213GP and Continental Race Attack 2 in the barely-road-legal track tyre category.
