The Sportec M3 is back in production. This wallet-friendly sports tyre offers all the performance you could need on the road and is ideal for middleweight bikes.
It’s available in 160 and 180-section rears. The 160-rear will suit such bikes as the SV650, NC750 and Ninja 500. While the 180-section rear is ideally suited to sports 600s, for example, the SRAD GSX-R600, Thundercat and Hornet 600.
With the Sportec M3, Metzeler revised the compounds, the tyre’s construction and its profile. The tread pattern was re-designed too, to enhance contact patch, feel, grip and handling in both dry and wet conditions, when compared to the popular Sportec M1.
Metzeler have reintroduced this tyre for 2025. Why? Well, because they want to offer a low-budget but capable sports tyre for riders of middleweight bikes. So if you ride a Yamaha MT-07, Honda Hornet 600 or a 2000s era sports 600, these are well worth a look. Michelin also wants to cater for this market, hence they still produce the Power 2CT, which was first released in 2011.
So all you middleweight lunatics, looking for a wallet-friendly Sports tyre: the M3 is a really solid choice.
If you have a litre-sportsbike, or ride a bike pushing out more than 125bhp, we’d opt for the more modern (and pricier, sorry) Metzeler Sportec M7RR or the M9RR.
