Yamaha RD History
For many older bikers, just two letters sum up their youth experiences on two wheels and those two letters are RD.
For many their RD50 or RD125 was the gateway to freedom and for plenty of bikers the RD250 was the machine that their owned and modified all through their twenties.
These days all two-strokes fetch big money, fuelled mainly by nostalgia. The bigger-engined bikes like the 250s and 350s command eye-watering prices but if you want to recreate your youth (if only for an hour on a Sunday), then what price happiness?
Can you convert Imperial sizes to Metric?
The early 80s and 70s bikes all run Imperial sizes (in inches) and while you can buy tyres with these sizes you can also do a conversion to find a tyre in the modern Metric sizes. For example a 2.75/18 tyre converts to 80/100-18.

Metzeler Block C – For that real old-school look
Yamaha RD Tyre Pressures
You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.
We suggest running 125 / Small bike tyre pressures on your RD.
If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:
Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi
Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi
Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi
125cc / Small Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi
You should always check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold. Check out our range of motorcycle tyre pressure gauges here.
