Triumph Tiger 800 Tyre Guide

Tyre sizes, the best tyre options, tyre pressures, reviews and more for the mighty Triumph Tiger 800.

Triumph Tiger 800 Tyre Size

The Tiger 800 series runs two different tyre sizes. There’s the more road orientated models and then there’s the XC models which are aimed at off-road riding.

The Tiger 800 runs a 100/90/19 front tyre and a 150/70/17 rear tyre. We advise our customers to switch out that front tyre for a 110/80/19 because that opens up a whole load more tyre options, including tyres like the Metzeler Tourance Next 2 and the Michelin Road 5 Trail and Bridgestone T32.

Seeing as most standard Tiger 800s never go off-road, the profile switch gives you far better real-world road tyre choices.

The Tiger 800 XC (and XCx and XCa) all run a 90/90/21 front tyre and a 150/70/17 rear tyre and you can get loads of decent light knobbly and serious off-road tyres in those sizes.

You can click those links to see all the different tyre options for this bike. As motorcycle tyre specialists, accredited by the major manufacturers, we can supply any tyre to you by mail order or you can have them fitted in our London motorcycle workshop.

These are common motorcycle tyre sizes and so you have plenty of choice, whether you want a tyre for Touring, Fast Road Riding, Off-Roading or All Weather Riding.

Triumph Tiger 800 History

Launched in 2001 the Tiger 800 came in two versions the standard and the more off-road orientated XC.

It shared the same cylinder head and throttle bodies as the Street Triple 675 but that’s about where the similarity ended. It’s a brilliant road-going-adventure-styled tourer or commuter. The XC version has a taller seat more suspension travel and let’s not forget the 21″ front wheel which makes it better-suited to off-road action.

Triumph kept with this simple on-road, off-road formula from 2011 to 2017 but then in 2018 they went a bit mental.

Triumph launched the Tiger 800 XR and XC series. The XR being for the road and XC aimed at the off-road. Simple enough, so where’s the mental? Well Triumph further split the range down to XRx, XRx Low, XRt and the XCx and XCA. That’s a lot of choice, too much one might argue? Don’t ask me why they need five different Tiger 800s but that’s all changed now as they’re launched the Tiger 900 (and Tiger 850 Sport) and so far they’re keeping that range (a little bit) simpler.

No mater what Tiger you own, if you can tell me what type of terrain you’re riding, I can find you a decent tyre.

We’re confident this is the best motorcycle pressure gauge out there. That’s why it comes with a 3-year, no-nonsense, money back guarantee.
