Suzuki SV650 Tyre Size
The original Suzuki SV650 runs a 120/60/17 front tyre and a 160/60/17 rear tyre. The latest versions run a more conventional 120/70/17 front tyre. Suzuki SV650SÂ History
The SV650 is a bike that refuses to go away. And that’s a good thing because 20 years from its launch and despite Suzuki trying to kill it off, it’s still in their range and it’s still a great first big bike for new riders and a great choice for anyone coming back to biking after booting the kids / wife from the house.
The SV comes in two flavours, the SV650 which is the naked one and the SV650S which is the half faired one. Introduced in 1999, the original bike was the rounded one and to this day one of the best bikes I’ve ever ridden when it comes to wheelies (a quality that not a lot of riders seem to have in their must-have list, but alas).
The 2003 version was sharper looking and came with a lighter die-cast frame, fuel injection and revised carbs. I’m sure you’ll be clinging onto the edge of your seat waiting for my verdict on how good the second model was at wheelies. I didn’t rate it as good as the first version. Might be something to do with the carbs, maybe Suzuki played with the gearing, perhaps my ability to hoist the front diminished as I lost my bottle.
Suzuki then introduced the SFV650 (Gladius) in 2009 which was a bit of a mixed message if you ask me. It seemed like the SV came back to Suzuki’s house and realised they’d changed the locks.
The SV had been relegated. Then Suzuki did an about turn and introduced the SV650X, a sort of ‘sorry for booting you out but please come back’ edition. Then in 2016, SV fans rejoiced as Suzuki re-introduced the SV into the range. I’ve not ridden the latest one, so I’m not sure what she’s like on one wheel but any 2016 SV-riding wheelie addicts reading this, feel free to give me a call and let me know the cold hard facts.

The SV has come on various tyres over the years but the Dunlop Roadsmart range has been a common fitment. The Roadsmart is now on the third version, the Roadsmart 3.
Suzuki SV650Â Best Tyres
SVs are ridden by new riders and experienced riders alike. Other than the race bikes, they don’t tend to be used by trackday enthusiasts but you do see the odd-one being used on track.

You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.
If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:
Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi
Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi
Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi
125cc Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi
