Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the Michelin Road 6 GT
What is it: The Michelin Road 6 GT is the grand-touring variant of the Road 6 range. This tyre has been homologated for heavier bikes. The tyre itself is much heavier and stiffer. While you might think a GT version would be a good idea for your bike as you’ll get more mileage from the tyre, the reality is that you won’t get the feel from these tyres if you’re on a lighter bike. Your best option is the standard Road 6.
What tyre it replaces: The Road 6 GT replaces the Michelin Road 5 GT, continuing Michelin’s leadership in the premium touring tyre segment with improved technology and greater touring capability.
Who is it aimed at: The Road 6 GT is aimed at touring riders and long-distance enthusiasts who cover big miles — solo or two-up — and need tyres that offer stable handling, predictable feedback and trusted wet-weather performance. It’s particularly well suited to big tourers and heavier bikes where load capability and comfort are priorities.
Typically seen on: You’ll often see Road 6 GTs on big GT and luxury tourers, such as BMW K1600 series bikes, Honda Gold Wings, Yamaha FJR1300s and similar machines where comfort and stability over long days in the saddle matter most.
Road 6 GT highlights: 15% more wet grip than the previous generation thanks to 100% silica compound and Water Evergrip Technology. Up to 10% longer tread life versus the outgoing Road 5 GT. Reinforced construction for improved stability on heavy bikes. Excellent all-condition confidence with strong mileage and touring comfort.
Road 6 GT tyre sizes: 120/70-17 fronts and 180/55, 190/50 and 190/55 width 17″ rears.
The competition: The Road 6 GT’s main rivals include Bridgestone T33, Metzeler Roadtec 01 HWM and Pirelli Angel GT II in the premium touring category.
Michelin Press Release
Wet grip: The Michelin Road 6 GT tyre has 15% more grip than its predecessor in wet conditions thanks to silica technology tread compounds and a new tread pattern featuring Michelin Water Evergrip Technology.
Longevity: The Michelin Road 6 GT tyre delivers 10% longer tread life compared with the previous generation.
Tread design: An optimized ratio of grooves to rubber, known as the void ratio, gives improved grip performance in both wet and dry conditions. This ratio is not compromised when cornering, so riders have constant and accurate feedback from their tyres. The Michelin X-Sipe Technology combined with Michelin Water Evergrip Technology ensures the tyre has consistent grip throughout conditions and maintains its grip even as the tyre wears – giving riders confidence in the tyre from the first mile to the last mile. There are also new groove and sipe angles with longer edges that cut through water film and maintain road grip.
Tyre compounds: Michelin Silica Rain Technology improves the tyre’s grip in colder conditions and on wet roads, promoting continuous performance and longer tread life. New for the Michelin Road 6 tyre ranges is Michelin 2CT+ Technology applied for the first time to the front tyre, giving riders more stability entering corners.
Tyre architecture: Michelin Amplified Density Technology is a highly dense, rigid tyre casing that gives riders excellent feedback and handling. Aramid tread plies resist centrifugal growth at speed, reduce weight and provide stability.
Improved aesthetics: Michelin Premium Touch Technology is used in the design of the sidewalls, a feature originating from ultra-high-performance tyres for sportscars. This exclusive technology uses micro geometry on the sidewalls to create texture, which in-turn allows it to modulate contrast and create shades of grey to highlight the tyre markings and give an attractive finish.
