Michelin Power GP2
We have ridden on the Power GP2 back to back with the Power 6 on both road and track in Spain. If you ride a performance bike on the road but also do a handful of trackdays a year, these are well worth your consideration.

Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the Michelin Power GP2
What is it: All new for 2024. The Michelin Power GP2 sits one below the Power Cup 2 as one of Michelin’s stickiest road-legal tyres. It’s a step up from the Power 6 in terms of performance potential. We rode on the GP2s back to back with the Power 6 on the road and on track at Jerez in Spain. On the road the Power GP2 warms up quickly, feels precise and offers lots of feedback. Where the Power GP2 really excels is on the track. Compared to the Power 6, the Power GP2 feels firmer, more responsive and offers more grip. The bike feels more agile when it comes to changes of direction and is able to hold a tighter line when running the GP2s compared to the Power 6. We don’t feel the Power GP2s are excessive for road riding, although the Power 6 will likely perform better in mixed conditions.
What tyre it replaces: The Michelin Power GP
Who is it aimed at: According to Michelin’s charts, the Power GP2 is aimed equally at road and track. However, with the Power 6 covering the road stuff, we’d suggest the GP2 is a great choice if you intend to do multiple trackdays on your road bike. If you’re in the Beginner or Intermediate group on track and you’re starting to push your limits, these will be well suited to you. If you’re in the Advanced group, these will still cut it, no problems but riders in this group tend to have a dedicated track bike or access to tyre warmers, in which case more extreme tyre options can be considered.
Typically seen on: Whether you have a YZF-R7 or a BMW S1000RR, these offer precision and performance, with little trade-off on the road.
Power GP2 highlights: Despite this being a high-performance tyre, the Power GP2s have dual-compound construction. This gives you a grippier shoulder and a harder-wearing central section, for optimum grip, feel and a higher mileage return. Pretty much zero compromise.
Power 6 tyre sizes: All 17″ sizes, with 120/70 being the only front option and rear sizes from 160 up to 200, covering bikes from 600s, all the way up to full-blown superbikes.
A more extreme option: The next step up and the stickiest in Michelin’s road-legal range is the Michelin Power Cup 2
A more road-focused option:Â If you want a sporty tyre that has a wider operating window, check out the Michelin Power 6
The competition: Other good track-focused sports tyres are the Pirelli Rosso 4 Corsa and Continental Race Attack 2 Street
