Michelin Power 5
A direct replacement for the Power RS, the Power 5 is designed for fast road riding. It has a very low (11%) void ratio meaning there's maximum amount of rubber in contact with the road but with additional silica you won't get caught out if it rains. If you're running a sportsbike, these are a definite contender.

Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the Michelin Power 5
What is it: All new for 2020. The Michelin Power 5 is a great choice for fast road riders or sportsbike riders who like to take their bike on a trackday. It’s a fast-warm-up sticky road tyre that offers excellent steering response, with a neutral profile to give predictable handling, even at extreme lean angles. While it’s not the best choice for all weather riding (that accolade goes to the Michelin Road 5) it won’t leave you stranded if you get caught out in the rain as this tyre is rich in silica and will work well in the wet. It’s right up there as one of the most popular tyres we sell. The lifespan of the tyre means you’ll get around 3,500 to 5,000 miles out of a set. Awarded the Recommended triangle from RiDE magazine’s June 2021 ‘Sporty Road Tyres’ test. “A great tyre that combines the best bits of Michelin’s race and touring rubber. The amount of feel they give allows toy to ride with a new lease of life.”
What tyre it replaces: The Michelin Power RS
Who is it aimed at: If you’re the type of rider that likes to push their bike hard on a sunny Sunday but also wants a tyre that can handle a summer downpour, the Power 5 is a great option. Front tyre offers incredible feel while the dual compound rear gives you superb edge grip and returns good mileages from the harder central section
Typically seen on: Designed to suit a wide range of road bikes. A typical fitment on bikes that like the twisty stuff, like the Yamaha MT-07, Triumph Street Triple and MV Agusta F3 800 and Aprilia RS660. We’ve even fitted a pair to a Ducati Multistrada 1200.
Power 5 highlights: An ultra-low 11% void ratio meaning 89% of the tyre’s surface is in contact with the road. High silica content meaning they warm up quickle and work well in the wet too.
Power 5 tyre sizes: All 17″ sizes, with a 120/70 being the only front size and rear sizes from 160 all the way up to 200.
A more extreme option: The Power 5 can hold its own on a trackday but if you’re going to be doing more track work, check out the Michelin Power GP.
A more road-focused option: A step down from the Power 5 is the Road 5, which is a good tyre for all-year riding but not as responsive as the Power 5.
The competition: There are lots of great tyres in competition with the Power 5s. There’s the Bridgestone S22, Metzeler M9RR, Continental ContiSportAttack 4 and the Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4.
Michelin says:
- The Michelin Power 5 is designed for road riders who like to exploit the full potential of what they are riding.
- It has a very low (11% front and rear) void ratio meaning that you have a massive amount of rubber in contact with the road at any one time.
- Carbon black on the tyres shoulders aid the incredible feel and grip. Don’t worry if you get caught out in the wet the silica compounds used will make you feel very safe.
Vs the Rivals
Michelin Power 5 vs Bridgestone S22
The Power 5 and Bridgestone’s S22 are closely matched. Both are sporty road-focused tyres that will see you through a trackday at fast-group pace. They’re both dual compound, and are designed to offer good wear rates, while also maximising edge grip. Unlike sports tyres of a decade ago, they can also cope with cold weather and the rain.
Michelin Power 5 vs Michelin Road 5
The Road 5 is very much a road tyre, it’s not designed to be used on track. While you can cut a good pace on the road on both the Michelin Road 5 and Power 5, if you want to bring out the best in your bike’s handling, go for the Power 5. If you ride in all weathers and value a faster warm-up, wet weather performance and mileage at the slight expense of outright edge grip, then the Road 5 is the one to go for.
Michelin Power 5 vs Michelin Power RS
The Power 5 essentially replaces the Power RS but the Power 5 is a far more capable tyre in adverse conditions. You probably wouldn’t want to get caught out in the rain on the Power RS but the Power 5 copes with rain far better.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US
I wasn't sure the size inner tubes I needed, so rang. They were extremely helpful, friendly and gave me the information I needed. Within 5 minutes I had got my answers, tubes ordered, paid and receipted - wow. I am usually cautious about using someone for first time, and not local (I live in Notts). I do recommend Two Tyres. Great job guys.
Called up and was able to get an appointment for the same day to replace both tyres on my BMW R1200 GSA. Not only was it great to get seen so quickly, compared to the 5 week wait I had been quoted by Motorrad, but Chris was able to offer some advice and guidance on which tyres best suited my needs. I cannot praise the service enough from Chris and the team and I will definitely be back for my next set of tyres!
Great service from these guys, I ordered on line and accidentally ordered two items the same, maybe clicked twice waiting for the page to change. They called me to check this wasn't a mistake (which it was) and immediately refunded me for the accidental purchase and sent out just one item. I know I'll be using them to get my tyres & tubes in future.
