Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the Michelin Anakee Adventure
What is it: The Anakee Adventure was released in 2019 to replace the Anakee 3. A more off road looking tyre then the Anakee 3, still retaining superb tarmac grip due to it’s high silica content and 2CT dual compounds on the rear tyre. This one will make your Adventure bike look and also feel the part.
What tyre it replaces: The Michelin Anakee 3
Who is it aimed at: If you’re an Adventure bike rider and you want a superb road tyre but you still want the chunky off-road look, the Anakee Adventure ticks all boxes. If you’re trail riding it’ll do the business on light trails and the dry stuff but if you’re heading deeper into the woods, you’ll want to step up to a more off-road capable tyre.
Typically seen on: Middleweight and big Adventure bikes. The Anakee Adventure is the OEM fitment for the BMW R1250GS and the Moto Guzzi V85TT – two great Adventure bikes. It’s a good fit for a variety of Adventure bikes. From the BMW F800GS and Triumph Tiger 800XC to the Royal Enfield Himalayan and Honda CRF1000 Africa Twin. We’ve even fitted a pair to an MV Agusta Turismo Veloce!
Anakee Adventure highlights: Mud & Snow rated. Two-compound construction on the rear tyre, to offer better wear on the central belt and more edge grip. High silica content enables it to warm up quickly and work brilliantly in the wet.
Anakee Adventure tyre sizes: A seriously wide range of fitments, including 17″ fronts to fit more road-based Adventure-sport bikes, right up to 18″, 19″ and 21″ fronts for Adventure and off-road bikes. The rears are available in all the common sizes for Adventure bikes and there’s even an 180/55 – 17″ rear!
A more extreme option: If you’re going to be doing lots of riding off-road and on the trails you’d be better off on the Michelin Anakee Wilds.
A more road-focused option: If you ride an Adventure bike but you rarely stray from the tarmac, you should take a look at the Michelin Road 5 Trail.
The competition: Adventure bikes are more popular than ever, so it’s no surprise this segment is packed with great tyres. There’s the Bridgestone A41, the Dunlop Meridian, the Continental TKC70, the Metzeler Karoo Street, Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 and the Avon Trekrider.
Michelin says:
The Michelin Anakee Adventure is an Adventure Touring tyre offering riders:
- Excellent water drainage from around the contact patch for excellent wet weather grip on the road.
- Proven 2CT construction with a softer shoulder compound and more hard wearing central band.
- 80/20 road vs off-road use, ideal for those who wish to explore off the beaten track now and then.
- M + S RATED, a legal requirement in some countries for use during winter months.
- All sizes are tubeless type but you can use a tube if necessary.
M+S stands for Mud and Snow, rather than M&S who are a purveyor of fine foods.
Press Reviews
“The Michelin Anakee Adventures are a solid 80/20 ADV tire option for those looking for impressive wet and dry pavement performance, along with the confidence to tackle some surprisingly rugged terrain, and they paired nicely with the V-Strom 650. We’ll check back in with an update on tread life once we’ve had a chance to put some more miles on them.” – Rider Magazine

Regardless of the bike we had selected, the Anakee Adventures were beautifully neutral and dependable.
Whether you were diving into a fast road corner at three figure speeds or powering along a twisty gravel track, the Michelins coped with whatever we threw at them regardless of whether we were on a 250kg behemoth or a lighter machine. On the tarmac you can simply forget the adventure tread pattern and ride like you’re on a set of road hoops. On the dirt, you can trust them to keep the bike sunny side up providing you don’t go mad and think you’re on a dirt bike. Impressive stuff, and enough to see the Anakee Adventure homologated as the OEM tyre for the 2019 BMW R1250GS and the new Moto Guzzi V85TT.
In the course of two sunny days in Portugal, the opportunity to test the tyres in any wet conditions didn’t arise, but as the Michelin test riders have racked up thousands of miles testing these new tyres in all kinds of weather conditions, we can be confident that the Anakees are not going to let you down on a winter commute. The tyres have a ‘mud and snow’ marking, but given the tread pattern on the front, we’d be reticent to be over-confident in slippery conditions. That said, given the tyre of riders and bikes these Anakee Adventures are aimed at, we doubt you’ll be heading out onto snotty trails in the depths of December…
Good tyres should be like good shoes, they need to do the job they were meant to do without you even noticing them. And on that basis, the Michelin Anakee Adventures could be the tyre that adventure riders have been looking for.”- Julian Challis, Adventure Bike Rider
