Honda XL750 Transalp Tyre Guide

Our guide to the best tyres for your Honda Transalp XL750, whether you’re commuting, Adventuring or looking for the sportiest rubber there is.

Honda XL750 Transalp Tyre Size

The XL750 Transalp runs a 90/90/21 front tyre and a 150/70/18 rear tyre.  You can click those links to see all the different tyre options for this bike.

Here at Two Tyres we’re motorcycle tyre specialists and can supply any tyre to you by mail order. Or you can have them fitted in our London motorcycle workshop.

One of the great things  Honda has done with the new Transalp is equip it with a 21″ front wheel and an 18″ rear, which a very common combination on Enduro and Off-Road bikes – meaning you can fit some very good knobbly tyres if you want to go off-road.

The skinny 21″ front wheel isn’t the ideal size for road riders.

However if you’re purely riding on the road, we’ve also suggested some great options to give you maximum feel, grip and confidence.

Honda Transalp History

The Transalp was first introduced by Honda in 1986 and while the technology has most definitely radically changed over the past 40 years, the ethos behind the Transalp hasn’t.

It started life as a 600, then a 650, 700 and now a 750. However despite the 25% increase in engine capacity, the Transalp still remains a versatile, manageable do-it-all bike.

While it may not be the poster boy for off-roading or Adventuring, the 750, with its 21″ front wheel, more than holds it own as a green lane toy or a proper rugged adventure beast.

Honda Transalp 750 stock tyres

The Transalp comes with Dunlop’s Mixtour tyres as standard. These are fairly average tyres and typical for a Japanese manufacturer, are on the budget side. You can do better, Honda.

Best Tyres for the Honda XL750 Transalp

The OEM Dunlops are not great. You could forgive them if they were good at one thing but they’re at best average at everything.

You’re going to go one of two ways with the Transalp. Either you’re a pure road rider who wants a middleweight Adventure bike for every day riding or touring or you’re looking to spend lots of time getting thoroughly muddy off-road. Whichever route you take, there are some far better options for you.

Pure Road

If you’re not taking your Transalp down anything more sinister than a gravel track, then these are great options for the pure road riders.

Metzeler Tourance Next 2

Bridgestone A41

Pirelli Scorpion Trail 3

Dual Purpose

The original-fitment Dunlops aren’t amazing ad definitely aren’t what we’d choose to go off-road. Here are a couple of other suggestions.

Bridgestone AT41

Dunlop Trailmax Mission

Continental TKC70 – Slightly more road-biased, central belt reduces vibration on the road

Michelin Anakee Adventure 2

Off-Road

If you’re heading off-road often, then these tyres are capable of taking on any terrain.

Bridgestone AX41

Michelin Anakee Wild

Metzeler Karoo 4 – As used by the Simon Pavey BMW Off-Road School

Are your tyre pressures letting you down?

We couldn’t find a tyre pressure gauge that was well-built, easy to get on-and-off the valve without pressure loss and could stand up to day-to-day abuse in our workshop. So we found a manufacturer to build one to our exacting standards.

We’re confident this is the best motorcycle pressure gauge out there. That’s why it comes with a 3-year, no-nonsense, money back guarantee.

Whether you want a digital tyre pressure gauge or a good old-fashioned analogue pressure gauge, we’ve got a gauge for you. Now you can quickly and easily check your pressures, to keep your bike handling well and to ensure you stay safe.
