Can you still buy 16.5″ slicks?

< 1 min read

You can but only just.

If you are looking for 16.5″ slicks, you either run an Supermoto race bike or you have a seriously tasty ex-British Superbikes race bike that runs 16.5″ rims.

16.5″ tyres have been phased out by almost all of the tyre manufacturers, due to the drop in demand from the highest levels of racing. World Superbikes made the switch in 2013, British Superbikes made the switch to 17″ tyres in 2014, MotoGP made the switch from 16.5″ tyres to 17″ in 2016.

There are still 16.5″ slicks available, just have a look on the internet or eBay to find them but they are getting long in the tooth now.

The fact is that tyre technology continues to progress at a rapid rate and today’s modern 17″ slicks are a far better choice than the 16.5″ slick tyres from 5 years ago. Much as a set of 16.5″ PVM or Marchesini wheels excites us, you’re probably better off converting your 16.5s to 17-inchers, in order to fit the freshest rubber.

If you do need 16.5″ slicks, we don’t stock many on the website but we can get them for you. Just give us a call on 0207 205 2205.

    • New stock unfortunately not Mel, we did manage to source some ‘oldish’ 16.5 slicks for a customers show bikes a while back, but they wouldn’t be any good for a ride around Donnington Park or other track.

These guys have a bunch of 16.5′ tires. Pirelli produced a brand new batch for iconic motorbike auction within the last year or so. They requested from Pirelli because they had customers needing them. It was listed on their webpage.

  2. I have quite a few pairs of NOS 16.5″ slicks, wets and even some intermediates along with a few sets of JD Power Magtans for sale if anyone wants them. They will be cheap as I just need the space. The wheels came from the Alstare/Crescent WSBK team when they switched to 17″ via Keith Flint’s team. Many of the the tyres came from Pirelli’s last batches through — in about 2015 and have been well stored ever since.

I also have a couple of pairs of Yutaka factory narrow-track superbike discs and a few fully floating rears. Wheels are all labelled as Camier and Haslam, so pretty late manufacture and in very good condition.
