Out of all the motorcycle puncture repair methods available, tyre foam is our least favourite option.
Tyre foam is exactly as it sounds, it comes in a can and comes out like shaving foam.
In our experience it isn’t very good as it often just leaks straight out of the puncture hole and doesn’t seal it as intended.
A far better temporary liquid option is tyre slime which is a (usually green) sludge that is sticky and fibrous and is better than foam at creating a temporary seal. We also sell a motorcycle puncture repair kit, that uses a bung and glue and is a good interim repair.
Foam isn’t completely useless but you should treat it as a very temporary way to get some pressure in your flat tyre so that you can (slowly and carefully) ride to your local motorcycle tyre shop to get the tyre replaced.
Once you use foam, you can’t apply a professional repair to the tyre as the foam prevents the glue from properly vulcanising to the tyre. This also applies to tyre slime, which although it can be washed off, takes a significant amount of effort and your tyre shop isn’t going to want to do that as they won’t be able to guarantee they’ve cleaned it off and then if the repair fails, you’re going to hold them responsible.
What we tend to do here is ask the customer to buy a new tyre, take their punctured one home, wash it properly and when they need another tyre, we repair their old one that they’ve properly cleaned out.
Tyre foam: you’re better off without it.
We have a very real need in Africa for permanent Foam for the small Motorcycles. Roads are not good and tyre repairs is the cause of many commuter delays.
