We’ve removed all sort of objects from motorcycle tyres. From the common screw or nail, to the less common industrial staple or piece of broken glass. We’ve also removed door keys, gas canisters and splinters of wood from motorcycle and scooter tyres.
Punctures from Stanley knife or box-cutter blades are rare, although they do happen. We estimate that out of every 100 punctures we repair, 1 to 2 are due to a Stanley knife blade.
If a Stanley Knife blade has entered your tyre, the puncture can’t be repaired. The blade itself can tear the metal cords that give the tyre its rigidity and this can compromise the tyre’s safety. Another factor is that the mushrooms we use, use a round bung and a vulcanising bonding agent, which works with a round hole but a slit will just continue to tear under load.
So if you are unfortunate enough to pick up a Stanley knife puncture, you’ll need a new tyre.
