Unfortunately not.
Getting a puncture is a stroke of bad luck but in most cases you can repair the puncture and the tyre will be pretty much as good as new.
However occasionally the object that causes the puncture (usually a screw or a nail) will penetrate the tyre’s sidewall as well. In this scenario you cannot carry out a repair.
In fact if the puncture is located on the outer 25% of the tyre (roughly within an inch of the tyre’s edge) you can’t carry out a repair their either.
The issue with a sidewall puncture or a puncture close to the tyre’s edge is twofold. Firstly, these areas of the tyre experience lateral flex and this will affect the tyre repair patch and possibly cause the patch to come away from the tyre’s carcass. The other issue is that on the edge of the tyre, there isn’t a large enough surface to properly apply the patch without it needing to bridge the sidewall and therefore it won’t properly seal and the puncture will fail.
