Ducati Multistrada 1200 History
It’s hard to believe the Multistrada is almost 20 years old. Multistrada means ‘Many Roads’ in Italian. Introduced in 2003 as the Multistrada 1000DS (Dual Spark) there was also a 620 version. The air-cooled low revving engines produced lots of torque and made the Multi easy to ride. Revised in 2005 with a few small updates the 1100 Multistrada was introduced in 2007 producing mroe power. It also came in an S version with Ohlin suspension. The Multi was further refined up until 2009. In 2020 Ducati introduced the all new Multistrada 1200 which had a new rugged and aggressive look. Based around the same engine as the 1198cc Superbike, the Multi 12 was a handful and has sportsbike worrying pace.
The Multistrada continued to evolve with an S version, a Skyhook version, the ‘Pikes Peak’ version and engine updates and DVT (variable timing). Then in 2018 Ducati introduced the new Multistrada 1260, which shared the same engine as the Diavel. In 2020, Ducati launched the new Multistrada V4, which is the first Desmodronic-less Ducati engine in a long time.
