BMW R1300R Tyre Guide

Our guide to the best tyre options for the R1300R, whether you’re commuting, touring or heading out for a Sunday blast!

BMW R1300R Tyre Size

The BMW R1300R runs a 120/70/17 front tyre and a 190/55/17 rear tyre.  The rear is wider than that on the outgoing R1200R, which, like the RT ran a 180/55-17.

You can click those links to see all the different tyre options for this bike. However be aware that not every tyre that can fit this bike is a recommended fitment.

We are motorcycle tyre specialists, accredited by the major manufacturers, and we can supply any tyre to you by mail order or you can have them fitted in our London motorcycle workshop.

BMW R1300R History

There’s no denying the R1300R is a left-field bike. Riders of naked bikes seem to prefer massive horsepower and wheelies but the R300R flies in the face of all that. Yes, it has a powerful 1300cc Boxer motor that’s an absolute peach to ride on UK A roads but it also has a massive dose of real-world rideability. Thanks in part to its new-fangled electronically adjustable suspension (on the DSA model at least).

The R is one of those bikes that slips under the radar for most bikers. But if you’ve ever ridden one, you’ll know how good they are.

BMW R1300R Stock Tyres

The new R not only has a larger engine but the rear tyre size has also  gone up. The R runs a 190/55-17 rear tyre, up from the 180/55-17 that’s been the mainstay of the 1200 and 1250 range.

The R1300R comes with Dunlop Roadsmart IV GT tyres as the OEM fitment.

The Dunlops are actually decent, especially for an OEM tyre, so well done BMW.

BMW R1300R Best Tyres

Despite the new RT coming fitted with the far from shabby Dunlop Roadsmart 4s, there are other good options you can consider.

Are your tyre pressures letting you down?

We couldn’t find a tyre pressure gauge that was well-built, easy to get on-and-off the valve without pressure loss and could stand up to day-to-day abuse in our workshop. So we found a manufacturer to build one to our exacting standards.

We’re confident this is the best motorcycle pressure gauge out there. That’s why it comes with a 3-year, no-nonsense, money back guarantee.

Whether you want a digital tyre pressure gauge or a good old-fashioned analogue pressure gauge, we’ve got a gauge for you. Now you can quickly and easily check your pressures, to keep your bike handling well and to ensure you stay safe.

Here at Two Tyres, we stock more than just tyres. Take a look at some of our essentials for any biker.
