More expensive motorcycle tyres often use advanced compounds, construction techniques, and development work that can provide better performance, consistency, and feedback. They are usually the newest models and their price also reflects the research and development costs that have gone into that specific tyre. These developments are often used on other models and as this technology permeates into other tyres, the costs are often then shared with other models and prices are reduced.
Premium tyres, when compared to economy tyres may warm up faster, maintain grip across a wider range of conditions, and offer more predictable handling as they wear. However, this does not mean they are the right choice for every rider.
Of course, each manufacturer’s tyres also differ. The difference between one manufacturer’s premium range and their second-tier tyres will vary.
If you ride at moderate speeds, cover high mileage, or mainly commute, a mid-range tyre may offer better value for money. Paying for performance factors you do not use does not always make sense.
The best value tyre is one that matches your riding style, conditions, and expectations, rather than simply being the most expensive option available.
