Yes you can. There are certains cases when it makes sense to do so and others you should avoid.
If you have a scooter with a puncture, if you can’t get hold of a replacement tyre, you can always fit an inner tube and the tyre will inflate properly. However the next time you get a puncture the tyre won’t slowly deflate, instead the tube will just go pop and you’ll instantly have a flat tyre.
If you have a bigger like, let’s say, a Triumph Street Triple, you could fit a tube as a last-ditch-get-me-home effort but you would have to ride very cautiously with a tube fitted, as a blow-out could easily lead to a loss of control. Far better to repair the puncture, replace the tyre or recover the bike home.
If you run an Adventure bike, you can run tubes as a way of enabling you to run your tyres at a lower pressure, which is usually what you’ll do if you’re venturing off-road. However, far better would be to run a tyre that’s designed to be run off-road at road pressures or that can be safely deflated to a recommended off-road pressure without risking the tyre popping off the rim.
