The short answer is no.
If you’re a road rider, there is not a product out there to solve the problem of punctures and running a heavy duty motorcycle inner tube is not the answer.
However if you are riding off-road, you have a couple of good choices.
You can run a heavy-duty inner tube, which is more resistant to pinch-flats than a regular tube.
Or you can run a tyre mousse. This is not, as it might sound, a gel you squirt into your tyre – a bit like tyre weld – but a replacement for an inner tube.
A mousse is a high density foam that is different to a pneumatic inner tube. You don’t put any air into a mousse but its construction means it is similar to an inner tube running low pressures.
Here at Two Tyres we debated the name mousse as we don’t think it’s the right fit for the product. A mousse has a consistency of something like Angel Delight but a tyre mousse is a lot denser. We talked about the fact it would be a better fit if it were called a tyre jelly or a tyre blancmange but, you know, no-one asked us, so we’re stuck with tyre mousse.
You shouldn’t run a mousse on the road as they are not road legal but we know some riders do run them on road-legal trail bikes that mainly spend their lives off-road but are used on the road to nip between trails.
If used at road speeds a mousse can overheat so you have to be careful when riding for extended distances as speeds of over 30mph.
