Honda 650 Tyre Size
The 599cc Honda comes in a few flavours, the CBR650F, the newer CBR650R and the naked CB650R.
All of these bikes run a 120/70/17 front tyre and a 180/55/17 rear tyre. Â
Due to the fact they are all powered by the same engine and use a similar chassis, we’re treating them as one bike and making suggestions for different riding scenarios.Â
Therefore you have plenty of choice, whether you want a tyre for Touring, Trackdays, Fast Road Riding or Commuting.
Honda CB650R, CBR650R & CBR650F History
Honda’s 650cc four-cylinder platform has been a mainstay of the brand’s middleweight range for over a decade, offering a blend of everyday usability and smooth, rev-happy performance.
The CBR650F, introduced in 2014, was the first modern incarnation of this platform. Positioned as a sporty all-rounder rather than an out-and-out supersport, it combined a relaxed riding position with a faired body and a 649cc inline-four engine. It proved popular with riders looking for a comfortable, practical road bike with a sporty edge.
In 2019, Honda refreshed the platform with the launch of the CBR650R and CB650R. These bikes retained the same basic engine layout but received updated styling, revised chassis components and a more focused feel. The CBR650R adopted sharper, more aggressive bodywork inspired by Honda’s Fireblade, while the CB650R took on a naked, neo-sports café look with a more upright riding position.
Despite their visual and ergonomic differences, all three bikes share the same core mechanical layout and tyre sizes, making them closely related from a maintenance and replacement tyre perspective. The choice between them largely comes down to styling and riding position rather than any fundamental difference in how they ride or handle.

Honda 650 Stock Tyres
The stock tyres on the CBR650F are Dunlop Roadsmart 2s which are still in production but not a massively popular tyre.
For most model years, the CBR650R came with either Dunlop Roadmsart 3 and the CB650R came with Metzeler Roadtec 01.

Honda 650 Best Tyres
We’ve split the two suggestions into two common applications. Fast Road tyres for those who like to head out for a Sunday blast and perhaps the odd trackday and Higher Mileage Road tyres for Commuters and Tourers who want grip, mileage and wet weather performance.
