BMW K1600 Tyre Size
The BMW K1600 runs a 120/70/17 front tyre and a 190/55/17 rear tyre. You can click those links to see all the different tyre options for this bike. However be aware that not every tyre that can fit this bike is a recommended fitment. The K1600 is a heavy bike and so it makes sense to run the homologated tyres listed below.
As motorcycle tyre specialists, accredited by the major manufacturers, we can supply any tyre to you by mail order or you can have them fitted in our London motorcycle workshop.
BMW K1600 History
Released in 2011 to replace the K1300GT, BMW threw the kitchen sink at the K1600, with its 6-cylinder, 1649cc engine that provides effortless grunt and continent crushing power. The elephant in the room is its weight. At 320kg fully wet, it’s a beast of a bike and a difficult one to man-handle at walking speeds when two-up and full of luggage.
Still the K1600 is an engineering marvel and we can’t think of a more comfortable place to be when heading for the twisty roads and vineyards of Southern France.
For 2019 the GTL also gets Dynamic ESA Semi Active suspension as standard fitment. There’s also a Bagger version and a Grand America version too.

BMW K1600 Stock Tyres
The K1600 came with the Metzeler Z8 as the OEM tyre, the K1600 GTL from 2018 came with the Bridgestone T30 ‘L’ fitment
BMW K1600 Best Tyres
Metzeler Z8 is one of the stock tyres and we’d recommend sticking with it as it’s homologated for the bike and is well-liked by owners. The Bridgestone T30 ‘L’ fitment isn’t a bad tyre but the mileage you’d get out of it isn’t great.
However if you aren’t a big fan of the stock tyre, go for the Pirelli Angel GT2 (A fitment) or the Dunlop Roadmsart III which are both officially homologated for this bike.
BMW K1600 Tyre Pressures
You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.
If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:
Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi
Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi
Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi
125cc Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi
You should always check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold. Check out our range of motorcycle tyre pressure gauges here.
