Honda MSX125 History
Not many people know that MSX stands for Mini Street eXtreme but that’s exactly what the codename was for Honda’s tiniest 125 and when it was launched, the MSX125 (or Grom if you’re a Yank) was a light-hearted take on motorcycling from a company that’s better known for burgundy coloured superbikes and semi-automatic tourers.
Yes the MSX125 is a party on two wheels. The cute little package is a customiser’s dream and they have sold by the bucket, load, partly down to their low price but mainly down to the fact they are a giggle to ride and easy to modify.
It has hardly been touched since its launch in 2014 but in 2018 ABS was added.

Honda MSX125 Stock Tyres
The stock tyres on the MSX125 are called Vee Rubber. We’ve had a little debate here and we reckon they’re the worst stock tyre any modern motorcycle comes on. So it’s a really good idea to ditch these OEM tyres ASAP.
Honda MSX125 Best Tyres
There are three good options for the MSX125. The Michelin City Grip 2 is probably the most popular choice and a good all weather tyre. The Anlas Winter Grip 2 is another good choice for city riding as they’re a brilliant wet and cold weather tyre. Finally the Bridgestone SC is a great tyre that’s good in all conditions but has a sportier tread pattern than the other two.
Honda MSX125 Tyre Pressures
You can find your motorcycle manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures in your owner’s handbook. You’ll also find a tyre pressure chart sticker on the swingarm.
If you have no idea what pressures to run, this is our general rule:
Scooter: F 30psi, R 30psi
Normal Motorcycle: F 36psi, R 42psi
Big Tourer: F 42psi, R 42psi
125cc Bike: F 33psi, R 36psi
You should always check your tyre pressures when the tyres are cold. Check out our range of motorcycle tyre pressure gauges here.
