It replaced the Roadsmart 2, it offers class leading agility, wet weather performance and a claimed 44% increase in mileage over it's predecessor. Description
If you ride a ‘big’ bike, we’re talking Kawasaki ZZR1400, Yamaha FJR1300, BMW K1600 sort of thing and you want it to handle as sweetly as a sportsbike, then the Roadsmart 3 is well worth a look.
It’s a sports-touring tyre that thinks it’s a sports tyre. It returns better mileage than the rivals and it’s ideally suited to the bigger, heavier bikes. We went on the launch of this tyre where we back-to-backed it with the older Roadsmart and rivals tyres on an FJR1300 and you could really notice the difference. At slow speeds, the gurt big FJR felt like it was on tiptoes and as the pace increased, the tyres kept the bike feeling superbly agile.
So if you want a tyre that has a great combination of mileage, outright grip and sharp handling, they don’t come much better.
The Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart III is a Sport Touring tyre offering riders:
- A Motorrad test-winning sport touring tyre, with an additional ‘SP’ spec option for lighter machines in selected sizes.

“We mounted a set of Roadsmart IIIs onto our KTM 1290 Super Duke GT test bike, and they were impressive right out of the gate. Sending 150 horsepower to the rear wheel and equipped with semi-active suspension, traction control and cornering ABS, the KTM is a powerful, sophisticated machine. But where the Roadsmart IIIs really shine is on wet roads, providing confident grip over a wide range of speeds and lean angles. “Pinning the Kwak out of roundabouts and tight turns, not once did I experience any lack of grip, and it was only when trying to pull wheelies where the tyre could be cajoled into spinning – and the weather soon dampened my enthusiasm for these capers. Similarly, only stupid braking forces got the ABS pumping at the front, so grip-wise we’re onto a winner here. Handling-wise, too, the RoadSmarts were light as a feather to push into a turn.
