About Provacell lithium batteries
Lithium batteries have already been embraced in the mobile phone, computer and power tool industry. Lithium batteries are now being supplied as the OEM fitment on some performance motorcycles and you can fit one to your bike too. They’re available as a replacement for any traditional battery and their advantages are that they’re much lighter, they crank harder and they charge faster.
This Provacell P9 lightweight lithium motorcycle battery is a replacement for the YTZ10S. The YTZ10S is a common fitment for a lot of Japanese motorcycles from the past 25 years.
It weighs just 0.95kg which is 2.2kg lighter than your bike’s standard battery. With almost twice the cranking power compared to a standard YTZ10S and it is just over one-quarter of the weight of the OEM lead-acid battery.
Lithium batteries are now becoming a common OE fitment for some motorcycle manufacturers, including Ducati, Honda and KTM.
Lithium motorcycle batteries have just 10% of the self-discharge rate of a lead-acid battery, meaning you can leave it disconnected for months and the battery won’t die. Every Provacell lithium battery comes with a built-in battery condition indicator. With a single button press, you can check the battery’s charge level with the built-in LED indicator.
Provacell lithium motorbike batteries use iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the cathode material and use the lithium-polymer process in their manufacture. This means that they will not catch fire or explode in normal operation, which can happen with cheap, low-quality lithium batteries which are less stable. They also contain a BMS (Battery Management System), which is a circuit board designed to optimise the battery recharging process, evenly distributing charge to the cells and preventing over-charging.

Under no circumstances should chargers be used which attempt to de-sulphate deep-discharged batteries under 10 volts with a voltage of more than 14.9 volts before they begin the actual charge. The maximum charging voltage of 14.9 volts must never be exceeded. Recommended charging current 1A and maximum charging current 12A.
