HARLEY LITHIUM BATTERY GUIDE
Here at Two Tyres we use and recommend these lightweight lithium Harley Davidson batteries, which weigh approximately 20% of your Harley’s standard lead-acid battery. This PV-1 65989 / VTB-1 fitment is the exact physical size of your outgoing battery, so it just slots right in. It is far lighter, weighing just 1.4kg, saving a massive 5.2kg compared to stock.
Lithium motorcycle batteries have just 10% of the self-discharge rate of a lead-acid battery, meaning you can leave it for months and the battery won’t die.
Our lithium-ion motorbike batteries are 100% safe to use. They are constructed using iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the cathode material and use the lithium-polymer process in their manufacturing. This means that they can’t catch fire or explode in normal operation, which can happen with some cheap, low-quality batteries. The only thing you can do wrong with these batteries is overcharge them; if you connect them to a standard lead-acid battery charger, it will think it’s a dead battery and try and pump lots of amps into it, to revive it. This will kill the lithium battery.
Designed specifically for Harleys, with excellent vibration resistance, the PV-1 is built to last. The built-in processor ensures that all cells charge efficiently, prolonging battery life. Another plus point is that due to less internal resistance, they have a higher cranking ability than a lead-acid battery, which is useful when it comes to cranking over large v-twin engines.
