In most cases the answer is yes.
Some riders like to fit part-worn race tyres as they like the worn look. Often these tyres are the stickiest tyres available and if they have been used on track they will no doubt have bobbling on the edge of the tyre. Some riders like this as it gives the bike – or them – the appearance of having been near the limit.
However it’s worth bearing in mind that not all motorcycle race tyres are road legal.
While you can fit part-worn rce tyre, we don’t recommend that you do.
With second-hand motorcycle tyres you have a limited knowledge of that tyre’s life; whether it has been stored correctly, warmed up properly, how many times it has been on and off a rim and whether or not there is any damage to the tyre (for example it might have been involved in an impact with no obvious signs on the surface).
If you have ridden to a trackday, used your tyres and you want to ride home on them or carry on using them on the road then there’s no issue with that – as you know that tyre’s history. However fitting a set of part-worn race tyres carries its own set of risks.
