Your motorcycle or scooter tyres are designed to work at a certain pressure, tested by the manufacturer.
This pressure will be different for the front and rear tyres.
The correct pressure enables the tyre to remain at a safe operating temperature, it allows the tyres surface to move and ‘flow’ into the gaps in the road surface to find grip. At the correct pressures the grooves in the tyre’s tread block will remain open and will be efficient at removing standing water on the road. Tyre pressure also helps a bike’s handling; too flat and you’ll find it hard to get a bike to turn, too firm and the tyre won’t find grip in the corner.
It is a bit of a chore to check your pressures but it’ll make all the difference to the way your bike or scooter feels and rides and ultimately the right tyre pressures are all about ensuring you have the safest possible ride.
