Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the ContiTrailAttack3
What is it: Continental’s Trail Attack 3 replaced the popular Trail Attack 2. A tyre made for the tarmac but also capable of a little bit of dry off road action. Lots of choice in the sizes available including ones to fit 17″ wheeled bikes. A regular test winner, the TrailAttack3 is a popular choice for big adventure bikes.
What tyre it replaces: Introduced in 2019 it replaced the TrailAttack2.
Who is it aimed at: The experienced Adventure-bike rider who needs a tyre to get them across Europe in all conditions, in comfort and safety. It’s not a tyre for full-on trail riding but in the right hands it can handle loose gravel trails and dry off-road action.
Typically seen on: Very popular with bigger Adventure-bikes, including the BMW R1200GS, Triumph Tiger 800 XC and Honda Africa Twin CRF1000 or CRF1100.
ContiTrailAttack3 highlights: Warms-up within a mile. Great wet-weather performance. Adventure look with the agility of a sports tyre.
Continental Trail Attack 3 sizes: Available in 17″, 19″ and 21″ fronts, to fit almost every bike out there and the rears are available in 17″ and 18″ sizes, all the way up to a 190/55 – 17 width, which, again, covers pretty much any bike.
A more road-focused option: If you ride an adventure bike and you won’t ever take it off-road, check out the Conti RoadAttack 3 for improved mileage and handling.
A more extreme option: If you’re taking your Adventure bike on the trails, then check out the Continental TKC70 and for even more off-road ability, fit the TKC70 Rocks rear.
The competition: The TrailAttack3 is the go-to tyre for a lot of Adventure bike riders. However there are also some good options from the rivals. There’s Pirelli’s Scorpion Trail 2, the Bridgestone A41, the Dunlop Trailmax Meridian and the Michelin Anakee Adventure.

Continental Tech Spec
- Revised tread pattern, in combination with our latest RainGrip compound, offer exceptional grip in wet conditions.
- Extremely fast warm up times, with your tyre up to temperature within the first mile, even in cold weather.
- MultiGrip Technology improves mileage through a wear resistant central area and progressively increasing grip levels towards the shoulder, with no feeling of step as you lean the bike over.
- Our unique Traction Skin provides an extremely safe and short scrubbing in period. This is possible due to the revolutionary micro-roughness of the tread surface, which is the result of the new tyre mould coating technology which eliminates the need for tyre-release agents.
- Zero Degree steel belt limits tyre growth at high speeds to superb stability, even under heavy braking.

“They suit the bike very well and work brilliantly from cold as well. Should be OE, definitely” Matt Wildee, RiDE Magazine

Press Reviews
“So, with 5000 miles on them, did they still perform like new on that 550 mile ride? On a day that encompassed rain through to bright sunshine and into the cool of night along motorways, country roads and forest tracks, they were great. Confidence-inspiring grip on the road, which is where most riders are going to use them, and enough grip to inspire adventure if you decide to stray onto hard-packed stony trails.
They’re wearing similarly to the OE Dunlops the Africa Twin came with, but with much more reassurance across the board.
If you’re looking to change tyres, I really would thoroughly recommend the Continental Trail Attack 3s”. – Bennetts
“Both on the wet pavement and in the slippery mud the TrailAttack 3s did their job without fault, giving me the confidence to ride a little faster and more aggressively as the day wore on. Their grip “from the start” is indeed excellent, a good thing since the cool wet weather and frequent stops meant several starts on cold tires.
“Pushing into each corner and braking a little harder each time, they stuck fast and gave excellent feedback, and I felt the front in particular is more agile than the BMW’s stock tire. Although we still need to try a pair on some dry, clean roads and corners to fully gauge their grip and wear, overall I’d say that Continental’s TrailAttack 3s are a perfect match for the demands of today’s large and powerful adventure tourers that are primarily ridden on the road. “ – Rider Magazine
