Michelin Road 5 GT
Dropping the word Pilot from the name but the Road 5 is the evolution of Michelin's most popular road tyre. Its distinctive Sipes technology helps make this a brilliant tyre in the wet while its fast warm up and edge grip are what makes it a firm favourite. Available in GT spec for heavy tourers.

Description
Two Tyres verdict
Michelin’s Road 5 GT has been developed for heavyweight bikes. The list of bikes that this tyre has been homologated for are below. It’s a slightly odd list and one of the main questions we’re asked is: Should I run the Road 5 GT on my BMW R1200GS? and while the rear is available in the right size for the GS, the front isn’t. And as the GS hasn’t been homologated for this tyre, we don’t recommend it.
What’s the difference between the Michelin Road 5 and Road 5 GT?
The difference is the way the ply is laid on top of each other. Michelin use a different construction method called Dual Angle Technology (2AT). In doing that, they don’t need to use additional steel belts like some other manufacturers do for their GT tyres. This approach creates a 15% stiffer cornering rigidity. If they added beading i.e. steel wires it woulfd add 700 grams of weight ot the tyre which Michelin want to avoid and so with this construction method it increases rigidity but keeps the weight down.
The Michelin Road 5 GT is a Sport Touring tyre offering riders:
- A new benchmark in wet weather performance for the sport touring market.
- Amazing stopping performance, with a 50% worn tyre achieving the same braking distance as a brand new Pilot Road 4 in testing.
- Excellent durability for many miles of happy riding.
- Follows on from the popular Pilot Road 4 and Pilot Road 3
- Designed for larger motorcycles
The Road 5 GT has been designed specifically for the following bikes:
- BMW R850 RT, R1150 RT, K1200 GT, K1200 RS, R1200 RT, K1300 GT, K1600 GT / GTL
- Ducati ST2
- Honda ST1300 Pan European
- Kawasaki 1400 GTR
- Moto Guzzi Norge 1200 / 1200 GT
- Triumph Trophy 900 / 1200, Sprint GT
- Yamaha FJR1300 (all)

Customer Reviews
“Have been thru several sets of Road 4 GT tires in the past. On these Road 5 GT’s, I see little wear on these after 500 miles. Haven’t ridden on wet roads yet as we’re pretty dry here in Colorado so far. Tires do not squirm at all with pressure set to 42 front/back in my 2012 Kawasaki C14. Have been leaning more and more into turns and have had no lack of grip. They inspire confidence and I can’t wait to feel their performance in the wet. I expect to get more miles out of the rear tires than the 4GT’s since there is more rubber in the middle of the tire on the 5GT’s.” – Steve
“I have had the Road 5 tyres on my BMW R1200RT since August 2018. They are amazing. The grip when going through the twistys is remarkable and inspires great confidence. I got caught in a sudden downpour on a two laner and I did not notice any slipage. My RT is older and does not have traction control or driving modes, but at no time did I feel threatened in the rain. I had Road 4s before these and the Road 5s are a great upgrade. They seem to be wearing very well and with about 5K mikes on them, they still look new..” – Rob
“Great mileage and I’m now in my second pair of Michelin Road 5 on a BMW K1300R.The first pair lasted over 15k km of touring style riding that more than 2k km were in wet to pouring rain condition. I loved the feedback especially in the wet and now I use the second pair for occasional track days with pressure 32psi in the front and 30psi in the rear. The only problem I found so far is a wiggle sensation while driving out of a corner. It’s not something that happens often but has happened enough times to take notice. All in all, an excellent all around option for sport-touring” – Steve

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US
I wasn't sure the size inner tubes I needed, so rang. They were extremely helpful, friendly and gave me the information I needed. Within 5 minutes I had got my answers, tubes ordered, paid and receipted - wow. I am usually cautious about using someone for first time, and not local (I live in Notts). I do recommend Two Tyres. Great job guys.
Called up and was able to get an appointment for the same day to replace both tyres on my BMW R1200 GSA. Not only was it great to get seen so quickly, compared to the 5 week wait I had been quoted by Motorrad, but Chris was able to offer some advice and guidance on which tyres best suited my needs. I cannot praise the service enough from Chris and the team and I will definitely be back for my next set of tyres!
Great service from these guys, I ordered on line and accidentally ordered two items the same, maybe clicked twice waiting for the page to change. They called me to check this wasn't a mistake (which it was) and immediately refunded me for the accidental purchase and sent out just one item. I know I'll be using them to get my tyres & tubes in future.
