Description
The Two Tyres 1-minute guide to the Bridgestone T31
What is it: Recently superceded by the T32, the T31 is still in Bridgestone’s range because it’s a great all-weather tyre, designed to offer neutral handling for a range of bikes, from middleweight commuters right up to big tourers.
What tyre it replaces: Introduced in 2018, the T31 replaced the popular T30.
Who is it aimed at: The real world rider who wants to have a tyre that performs well in all sitations and is capable of a wide variety of applications, from commuting to fast road riding to clocking up big miles in comfort. It’s a no-nonsense tyre for no-nonsense riders.
Typically seen on: Typical fitments are bikes like the Kawasaki Z1000SX, the BMW R1200RS, Suzuki Hayabusa or Honda VFR800.
Bridgestone T31 highlights: The T31 has a revised front tyre profile compared to the outgoing T30, designed to improve steering response. There’s also better wet weather performance, due to the increased amount of silica.
Bridgestone T31 sizes: The T31 comes in a wide variety of sizes to cater for most road-going motorcycles from the past twenty years.
Also worth a look: The Bridgestone T31 is a value for money road tyre, that’s closely matched to the Pirelli Angel GT, the Metzeler Z8 Interact, and the Dunlop Roadsmart.
The premium option: If you want to spend a bit more to get the very latest tyre tech then check out the Bridgestone T32 which is Bridgestone’s latest generation all year, all conditions tyre.
Bridgestone says:
CONTACT, FEEL and FEEDBACK.
The incredible safe feeling of the Bridgestone T31 is generated by the new innovative design pattern. This and the new compound upgrades make every sport touring rider confident whatever the condition.
WET GRIP and PERFORMANCE.
The steps made in low temperature and wet conditions are directly linked to the Research & Development at a molecular level on how to increase the silica dispersion inside the rubber.
SPORTY ATTITUDE.
New front profile and construction provides a bigger contact patch in all lean angles. This brings the fun factor to a new level as dry handling improved massively.
VARIETY of SPECS.
A huge variety of options covering all modern naked and sport touring bikes including the reinforced GT spec for heavy tourers.
A significant improvements in wet performance leads to a feeling of safety.
The ideal sports touring radial, able to cope with a wide variety of riding conditions.
Provides confidence in riding even in adverse conditions such as rain or changing road surfaces. The wet performance of the SPORT TOURING T31 has been greatly improved. In particular, shorter braking distances on wet road surfaces and enhanced cornering grip give the rider increased confidence. Naturally, the tire also offers handling accuracy and high-speed stability on dry road surfaces. The ideal sports radial, capable of coping with the wide range of conditions that confront riders over a variety of road surfaces
Recommended for:
● Riders who enjoy riding on winding road with a touring motorcycle.
● Riders who enjoy riding a super sports bike with touring tires.
● Riders who want high performance in wet conditions.
● Riders who want to ride with sense of security even when caught in unexpected rainfall.
Press Reviews
“The T31 is Bridgestone’s latest sports touring tyre, which the company says is developed with an emphasis on good wear and especially good wet grip.
The rear is dual compound, with harder rubber in the centre for better wear, and softer at the edges for more cornering grip, plus it’s reinforced to suit heavier bikes like these.
Importantly to us, it’s very neutral steering, so we could be sure any differences in feel were down to the bikes themselves, not the tyres.
All the bikes were happy on the T31s, but the Kawasaki felt the most benefit because it’s OE tyres are so bad.” – RiDE Magazine

“These have an increased ‘groove ratio’ on the tyre’s shoulder, while it’s been reduced in the middle for better braking in poor conditions. An entirely new compound features improved silica dispersion, and there’s a whole heap of other changes and tweaks you can read all about once Mike’s gone off and done the launch in Morocco, the lucky boy!
So you’ll know how they fare in the sun, but what I can tell you is that within just a few hundred yards of leaving Phoenix Yamaha (who very kindly fitted the hoops for me – cheers boys!), I could feel the difference between the 30 and the 31. Usually I’m quite tentative on new tyres, but they oozed confidence through the chassis immediately, instantly felt a little more composed and the grip in the wet, again, seemed to me a marked improvement.
I even managed to get some dry time, sort of, and one thing I’m very impressed with is the accelerated roll-in rate of the front. Usually going from sports to sport-touring tyres, there’s a tangible reduction in steering speed. This is normal and to be expected, but the T31’s profile is definitely a touch sharper, if that’s the right word to use, over the T30. And like all Bridgestone front tyres it feels, in the words of Mr Jonny Gawler, insanely incorruptible. It just sticks like glue.
Thus far, I’ve nothing but praise for the T31 in winter climes.”- Beej, Fast Bikes.

“After fitting, the ride home from work provided the first opportunity to scrub them in; or at least that was the plan until it decided to chuck it down just as I left.
But the following morning, hurrah! Sunshine! Unfortunately, however, it had carried on raining into the night followed by a heavy frost and the road outside my house now resembled an ice rink. Ultimately, though, since fitting the new tyres the feel has been very positive. They glide over white lines once more when changing lanes (rather than weaving); the temperature has barely got over four degrees yet, despite being given only a little time to warm up, the grip in the cold is a massive improvement and the end result is that I’m now confident enough to turn the traction control back down to one.
Now I can’t wait for a spot of dry weather and some flowing corners.” Simon, MCN newspaper

“Friday was time to try the T31 Sport Touring tyre on a 350 kilometre ride. This put me back in my comfort zone with numerous bike options from a Kawasaki Z650, Versys 650 & 1000, BMW S100 XR, MT07, MultiStrada to FJR1300.
I initially chose to take the Z650 out as I ride a Thundercat equipped with one of the T31’s predecessors, and thought it would be a good opportunity to make a fair comparison.
The morning started with all the bikes lined up in the shade outside the hotel. As we made our way through the busy streets in Ouarzazate it became clear very quickly how well these tyres would handle quick, sudden changes in direction as we made our way through the chaotic morning traffic.
Within five miles, we found ourselves leaving the city and heading in to the country. By this time the tyres had well and truly warmed up. The initial 80 kilometres of the day took us out along some very straight roads with huge sweeping bends. The high speed stability and shock absorption of the tyres was impeccable even on the varied road conditions we came across – old and fresh tarmac, concrete and gravelled sections. Even handling the odd side swipe from the powerful, unexpected cross winds.
As the day progressed we climbed further into the mountains and the ride became more and more technical with constant changes in direction and hard acceleration followed by severe braking into miles of switch-backs. At no point throughout this ride did the tyres feel anything less than planted, even when I got off line slightly and hit a big patch of dry, loose sand on fresh tarmac.”

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t test the claimed durability in one day and the Moroccan sun meant we didn’t get the opportunity to test Bridgestone’s wet weather claims, either. However, we did have a wide spectrum of bikes to choose from and temperatures varied from barely above freezing in the morning to nearly 30 degrees by midday.
In all conditions, the new T31 was faultless and in the chilly mornings, the tyres warmed up quickly and have confidence from the word go. Front-end feedback is excellent and you can feel the flex from the front tyre. The amount of available grip and bite transmitted to the rider varies dependent on the bike, but overall front-end feel is impressive and gives you the confidence to push a little harder.
Equally, the rear offers excellent shoulder grip and traction as you dial in the power. Even on KTM’s beefy 1290 Super Duke GT, I never experienced any movement from the rear, even when I purposely attempted to spin the rear when cold.” – Adam Child, Senior Test Rider, MCN

“The T31 honors Bridgestone’s tradition of focusing on predictable, yet lively behavior. On these tyres, the motorcycles gain a dynamic feel and slice through corners without ever ‘falling into’ them. You can even let go of the handlebars mid-corner; the bike just sticks to its trajectory. The handling is excellent and you change direction with minimum effort. In short: a very pleasant set on any stretch.”
The T31 never missed a beat throughout our test. The front delivers the right level of confidence needed for a stress-free rain ride, while the rear combines lively handling with excellent water drainage.”
“Our benchmark in terms of stopping distance on a wet track. By far! The closest competition is a meter away, while the poorest performer has our Suzuki stranded three meters up the road. Unintended stoppies on this slippery track illustrate excellent grip. In the dry, the T31 ends up in the leading group, which are all within one meter of each other. Assuring.”- Moto Magazine

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US
I wasn't sure the size inner tubes I needed, so rang. They were extremely helpful, friendly and gave me the information I needed. Within 5 minutes I had got my answers, tubes ordered, paid and receipted - wow. I am usually cautious about using someone for first time, and not local (I live in Notts). I do recommend Two Tyres. Great job guys.
Called up and was able to get an appointment for the same day to replace both tyres on my BMW R1200 GSA. Not only was it great to get seen so quickly, compared to the 5 week wait I had been quoted by Motorrad, but Chris was able to offer some advice and guidance on which tyres best suited my needs. I cannot praise the service enough from Chris and the team and I will definitely be back for my next set of tyres!
Great service from these guys, I ordered on line and accidentally ordered two items the same, maybe clicked twice waiting for the page to change. They called me to check this wasn't a mistake (which it was) and immediately refunded me for the accidental purchase and sent out just one item. I know I'll be using them to get my tyres & tubes in future.
